By 2008, the city's estimated population had reached 174,308 people.In 2006, Money magazine ranked Rancho Cucamonga as the 42nd best place to live in the U.S.

Dr. Donald J. Kurth was elected as mayor on November 7, 2006. Jack Lam is the city manager.
